The Classification of Q1 SJR-Ranked Library and Information Science Journals by an AI-driven “Suspected Predatory” Journal Classifier

Abstract In academic publishing, there is a need to be able discern scholarly from unscholarly, deceptive, and/or predatory journals. Predatory journals are not expected among highly ranked in reputable databases. SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), which ranks into four quartiles (Q1–Q4), acts as whitelist or safelist for journal selection. Q1 SJR-ranked likely “predatory.” An artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool Academic Checking (AJPC) system launched February 2023 claims differentiate suspected (SPJs) normal AJPC classified, 2 June assessment, 27 (or 42%) of the 64 library and information science journals, most (48%) published by Taylor & Francis, SPJs. This output unlikely accurate inaccurate) may suggest that this free online AI-driven tool, whose can independently verified anybody, providing erroneous output, thus misleading information.
